Sport fishing in Los Angeles can be expensive, or crowded. Most fishing boats that go out from Los Angeles area harbors are around $75 for 3 hours plus equipment rental, but can be crowded and uncomfortable. You will be lucky to have a bench to sit on with 20 to 50 fishermen aboard.
To book a sport-fisher for 4 to 6 people will be around $700 - $1000 for a half day and around $1800 for a full day. They have captains who are certified, but the requirement for a captain's license requires 300 days at sea in the last 3 years. That is not practical for most week-enders.
Friends with fishing boats in Los Angeles:
If a friend has a boat he can take friends out and they can help with expenses, as a gratuity. It is non-contractual, non-binding and voluntary - done on a friendship basis.
